[Applications to spend time in the workers rest home] (ID: 28214)
Description:
This grouping contains applications for permission to spend time at the workers rest home. Ghetto inhabitants were rewarded leave at this site after long months of hard work. During their time at the house , they would receive full meals, which could build up their strength. Most of the applications include correspondence written by the applicant to Der Aelteste der Juden in Litzmannstadt requesting a leave of absence from work and permission to stay at the rest home. The applications include a statement of the request, an explanation as to why they wish to go to the rest home, their name, address, and place of work. Some applications include supporting documentation such as medical certificates, doctors’ notes, and letters confirming employment. Many times, the applications contain notes written by someone in the office of Der Aelteste der Juden in Litzmannstadt including notes about the applicant, the decision regarding whether they were allowed to go to the rest home and the reasoning behind that decision.
